Killeen police arrested and charged a 32-year-old man with felony drug possession after staff at the city jail allegedly caught him trying to swallow a rock of cocaine.

Edwrick Quentria Bass was taken into police custody when an officer found drug paraphernalia in his pocket. He was searched during a traffic stop of a car in which he was a passenger.

At the jail, a public service officer spotted a white substance in Bass’ mouth. To keep him from swallowing it, a staff member applied pressure to his throat.

Bass spit out a small, white, rock-like substance that field tested positive as cocaine. It weighed 0.3 grams.

He was charged with possession of cocaine, less than 1 gram. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Bass on Friday, setting his bond at $20,000.
