COPPERAS COVE — Police arrested a man suspected of pointing an airsoft gun at another driver Wednesday on the highway.
Justice of the Peace John Guinn arraigned Matthew William Bridges on Thursday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Guinn set his bond at $20,000.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim told police Bridges was driving his tan Toyota Tacoma recklessly in the area of the Killeen Mall and the victim almost rear-ended the truck. The victim then started to drive from Killeen to Copperas Cove when Bridges allegedly pulled up next to the victim’s car and yelled something out the window.
As the two continued to drive toward Copperas Cove, the vehicles were passing the West Fort Hood Gate when Bridges allegedly pulled up beside the victim a second time, stated the affidavit. That time, he allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and yelled what sounded like “I will shoot you both.”
When police stopped Bridges’ vehicle in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Drive in Copperas Cove, they asked Bridges if there were any weapons in the vehicle, stated the affidavit. Bridges allegedly told officers no, but they discovered a Colt MK IV Series 60 airsoft pistol.
