A 24-year-old man is facing a felony charge after police said his intoxicated driving caused a vehicle wreck that sent one man to the hospital.
Joshua Edward Westerfield was arraigned Friday by Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin on a felony charge of intoxicated assault with a vehicle with serious bodily injury.
Westerfield was driving a pickup truck with two unsecured passengers in the bed after consuming “many” alcoholic beverages, according to an arrest affidavit. Westerfield drove over a curb into a grassy area near the 3600 block of Lake Road and began “driving fast and in circles.”
The truck rolled, ejecting both men from the bed. One of those men was pinned under the truck and suffered facial contusions and four fractured ribs, the affidavit stated.
Killeen police officers noted a smell of alcohol on Westerfield. Tests indicated he had a blood alcohol level of 0.239, well above the legal limit of 0.08.
Potvin set Westerfield’s bail at $75,000.
