CRIME

A man who police say was driving without a license plate was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle.

Garrett Richard Bullard, 22, was driving a 2015 GMC Sierra in the area of Jasper Road and Florence Road on Saturday with no rear license plate, police said.

When an officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, Bullard sped up and drove away, according to the affidavit.

A high-speed chase commenced, according to police. Bullard stopped in the 300 block of West Avenue G when the bed of the truck fell off, and Bullard exited the car and began to run away, police said. He was stopped when an officer fired a Taser at him, and took him into custody, according to the affidavit.

When he later spoke to police, Bullard told officers he fled because he didn’t want to go back to jail, according to the affidavit. He also told police that he stole the truck from Paceline Collision, according to the affidavit.

Bullard is no longer in the Bell County Jail. Bond was set at $35,000.
