A 29-year-old Harker Heights man was arrested this week in connection with the shooting death of a 41-year-old man in 2011.

Donald Lee Mitchell Jr. was arrested Thursday shortly after a Bell County grand jury indicted him for his alleged involvement in the 2011 death of Dominque Allen Davis, according to a Friday news release from the Bell County Sheriff’s Department.

On Aug. 23, 2011, officers responded just after 9:49 p.m. to reports of a gunshot near the intersection of Conder Street and Zephyr Road in Killeen. Upon arrival, they located Davis, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. Davis was in a vehicle that crashed through a fence into the backyard of a residence, according to police. Davis was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Mitchell was taken into custody without incident Thursday by agents with the U.S. Marshal’s Office at his residence in Harker Heights. He was transported to Bell County Jail in Belton.
