A 25-year-old Killeen man is behind bars after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase.

Anthony Michael Rivera was charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Rivera on Friday, setting his bail at $20,000.

An arrest affidavit states a Killeen police officer was on routine patrol Wednesday when he spotted a silver pickup truck in the area of Bryce Avenue and Southside Drive committing several traffic infractions, an arrest affidavit.

After the officer saw the driver of the truck fail to signal a turn properly, the officer activated his emergency lights.

Instead of pulling over, the driver sped off. During the chase, the truck struck another vehicle, the affidavit states.

The driver then attempted to push the other car out of the way, threw the car into reverse and nearly hit the pursuing officers patrol car.

Police followed the truck as the driver ran several stop signs before crashing his car into a tree at a trailer park, the affidavit states.

A man later identified as Rivera jumped out of the truck and tried to run from police on foot. An officer caught up with Rivera and detained him, the affidavit states.

Police later found drug paraphernalia inside Rivera’s truck. He remained in Bell County Jail Friday night.

In a separate case, Cooke arraigned Catherine Marie Wright, 33, on charges of possession of methamphetamine, less than, 1 gram, and false statement to obtain credit. Wright’s bail was set at $23,000.
