Killeen police arrested a 57-year-old man they believe sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in 2011.
Authorities charged Douglas Mathis with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, for the alleged offense.
Mathis’ arrest came more than two years after the assault was initially reported in March 2011.
According to an arrest affidavit, the victim told her mother about the assault on March 26, 2011, more than two weeks after it occurred.
The alleged assault took place inside Mathis’ car while it was parked behind a home on Janis Drive in Killeen, during which Mathis touched the girl’s genitals with his hand, the affidavit stated.
A forensic investigator interviewed the girl in May. She now 12, reiterated the story initially taken by police in 2011.
Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set Mathis’ bail at $100,000.
Potvin also arraigned the following people on unrelated charges:
- Daniel Lamar Howard, 32, on a charge of burglary of a habitation. Howard’s bail was set at $50,000.
- Inell Gerald Taylor, 22, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram. Taylor’s bail was set at $25,000.
