The man shot on Franz Drive Wednesday afternoon has died.
Lamar Marcell Roberson, 32, of Killeen, was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Claudia Brown at 1:21 p.m.
Police arrived at the 900 block of Culp Avenue around noon to see a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was brought to Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood by ambulance in critical condition.
The shooting happened after an altercation between the shooter and Roberson, police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said. The relationship of the two individuals is not yet known, nor is what the disagreement was about.
After police arrived on scene, officers elsewhere located a car on Rancier Avenue that matched the description of a vehicle witnesses said might have been involved in the incident, according to Miramontez. Officers tried to pull the driver over, but the suspect failed to comply, and a chase ensued.
The car eventually came to a stop, and the 31-year-old suspect was detained by police, according to Miramontez. He is currently in custody at the Bell County Jail.
This is the first criminal homicide in the city in 2018. By this time last year, there were already four.
