Killeen police arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl.
Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Alejandro Cervantez on Wednesday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault, setting his bail at $100,000.
Cervantez was arrested after police received a call about a suicidal person at a home in the 2500 block of Cody Poe Road in Killeen. Police eventually talked Cervantez into leaving the residence, where police recovered a 9 mm handgun, according to an arrest affidavit.
The mother of the alleged victim told police her daughter told her Cervantez forced her to touch his genitals, the affidavit stated. When the woman confronted Cervantez, he denied the allegation and made suicidal threats, so the woman called police.
A forensic nurse later interviewed the 4-year-old at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Central Texas, and the child described the alleged incident.
Cervantez remained in Bell County Jail on Wednesday night.
In an unrelated case, Daniel Lee Ward, 51, was arraigned on a charge of tampering with physical evidence. Ward’s bail was set at $50,000.
