A Bell County man fended off a suspected burglar who he says broke into his home and attacked him Thursday morning.

Bell County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported burglary in the 15000 block of Maxdale Road south of Killeen in Bell County just after 7 a.m.

The homeowner stated that he was asleep in his bedroom when he heard a loud crash. Before he could get up, a man entered the bedroom and began striking him while he was still in bed, according to a statement from the department.

The homeowner told deputies that he was eventually able to gain control and hold the man until law enforcement arrived.

Deputies arrested Margarito Sanchez, 34, of Killeen for burglary of a habitation. Sanchez is in the Bell County Jail, according to the department’s statement.
