WACO — A man convicted of molesting woman at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area was sentenced to one year in prison.
Ruel Hawkins was convicted on March 17 on one count of sexual contact without conent, according to court records.
According to federal investigators, Hawkins took the victim, an 18-year-old family member, to BLORA Aug. 5 to work out. They got to the park around 5 a.m., and talked while they waited for the sun to come up. The victim said Hawkins turned the conversation to topic of a sexual nature.
After the sun came up, the two started working out. While she was laying down after finishing a set of leg exercises, the victim said Hawkins began to rub her stomach.
Hawkins then began to put his hands down her pants, according to a criminal complaint. After she told him he should not do that, the victim said Hawkins began to perform oral sex on her.
The victim was able to get away and flagged down a truck. The driver called police, and Hawkins was arrested.
Hawkins received a sentence of 12 months in prison, and five years of supervised probation. U.S. Magistrate Judge Walter S. Smith recommended that Hawkins serve his sentence in the Central Texas area.
