BELTON — A judge sentenced a 33-year-old Killeen man to 20 years in prison Thursday for sexually assaulting two teenage girls.
Gabriel Omar Casiano received the sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual assault Oct. 15.
Casiano received a 20-year sentence for each count of sexual assault, which he will serve concurrently, according to presiding Judge Martha Trudo.
Arrest affidavits stated the mother of the two victims, ages 15 and 17, contacted police with allegations of sexual abuse on April 16.
Both victims told investigators in separate interviews that Casiano molested them in separate incidents about a week before police were contacted.
Police said Casiano confessed to both sexual assaults in an interview.
While the charges against Casiano stemmed from incidents which occurred in April, prosecutors indicated Casiano sexually assaulted the victims “countless” times over a two-year period when their mother was deployed.
“These were children that he was supposed to be taking care of,” said Mike Waldman, Bell County’s assistant district attorney.
The victims’ mother testified in court shortly before Casiano’s sentence was handed down. She was visibly upset as she spoke about the impact of Casiano’s crimes on her family.
“I feel betrayed. I hurt for my kids,” she said. “No child should have to go through this. No mother should have to go through this.”
