A man was hospitalized after being shot early Friday.

Killeen police responded to the shooting, which took place in the 1200 block of Valentine Drive, just before 4 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the male victim, who had been shot in the legs while riding in a black BMW.

The BMW was stopped at the intersection of Old Farm-to-Market 440 and Jasper Road, preparing to turn east onto Jasper when a small, dark-colored pickup truck pulled up beside it on the driver’s side.

The occupant in the pickup fired on the BMW several times, according to police. The victim did not realize he had been hit until after the BMW turned onto Valentine Drive and came to a stop, police said.

The victim in the BMW was transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with non-life threatening wounds. The driver of the BMW was not injured.

The shooter is at large, and police do not have a description of any suspects. Killeen detectives are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477, go to www.bellcountycrimestoppers.com or text BELLCO and the tip to 274637.
