BELTON — A Bell County grand jury indicted a man in a December shooting.

The grand jury indicted Eugene Cordell Berry on Wednesday on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to an arrest affidavit, Berry allegedly shot a man with a shotgun in the early morning hours of Dec. 12.

A witness told police her boyfriend was arguing with, and was later shot by, a man named “Geno.”

The argument occurred at a duplex in the 800 block of Safady Road in Killeen and centered on “Geno” owing the victim money, the arrest affidavit stated.

The three then went to a nearby liquor store, and when they came back, the two men began arguing again.

The witness and victim then decided to leave, the affidavit stated. The witness said she and the victim left the building through the front door, and “Geno” went out the back door. Outside the door, the witness saw “Geno” shoot the victim with a shotgun, the affidavit stated.

The witness drove the victim to Metroplex Hospital hospital; the shooting victim sustained injuries to his face, shoulder and left forearm, the affidavit stated.

Police were able to pull an image of “Geno” from video footage at the liquor store.

The witness identifed him as Berry in a photo lineup, the affidavit stated.
