FORT HOOD — A civilian was assaulted and shot at Fort Hood’s Liberty Village on Tuesday night, according to a release from U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command.

Special agents from the command and the FBI are investigating the on-post shooting that occurred at the Liberty Village Housing Area basketball court at 8:30 p.m., the release stated.

Liberty Village is not located on the main post and has no gate guards, but is patrolled by Fort Hood military police.

Officials said a male civilian with no Defense Department affiliation was allegedly assaulted and then shot by an unknown person or people following a brief argument.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the hospital, but his condition was not released by officials.

Anyone who has information in connection with this investigation is encouraged to contact Fort Hood military police at 254-287-4001.

No further information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation, officials said.
