Killeen police arrested a 19-year-old man they said led an officer on a high-speed chase.

Kelvanti Franklin Lawrence was charged with evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Lawrence on Wednesday, setting his bail at $20,000.

An officer began to follow a car Lawrence was driving in the area of Cody Poe and Watercrest roads in Killeen on Monday night after he saw Lawrence make a wide turn.  While pursuing, the officer lost sight of Lawrence because he turned off his headlights, an arrest affidavit stated.

The officer found the vehicle a short time later and attempted to pull Lawrence over by turning on his emergency lights. But Lawrence  continued to drive and ran several stop signs, the affidavit stated.

Lawrence came to an abrupt stop, got out of his vehicle and ran from the officer. The officer caught up and detained Lawrence.
