A man who was shot by a Killeen police officer earlier this month is facing criminal charges.
Police officials confirmed Titus R. Latchison, 35, of Killeen, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.
Latchison was shot after police responded to a report of a suicidal man in the 4500 block of Golden Gate Drive at 11:38 a.m. April 4. When an officer attempted to speak with him, the man charged toward the officer wielding two knives, police said.
The officer, identified by Killeen Police Department officials as Kyle Moore, was forced to discharge his weapon, shooting the man.
Latchison was immediately transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood after the shooting, then transferred to Scott & White Hospital in Temple. After undergoing several surgeries, he remains hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
Moore was initially placed on administrative leave, per KPD protocol. A statement released by KPD on Friday said Moore completed his administrative leave and was released to duty.
