Killeen police arrested a man they believe was dealing cocaine out of a hotel room.

Police charged Terrence DeLawrence Cooper, 32, with possession of cocaine, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams.

Police arrested Cooper after entering a hotel room at the Fairfield Inn in the 200 block of East Central Texas Expressway following suspicions from hotel staff that possible drug transactions may be taking place there.

Officers were dispatched to the hotel Wednesday night after a manager contacted authorities, alerting them to a specific room in which staff had seen an occupant repeatedly coming and going from the room, meeting individuals in the hotel parking lot and making an exchange, according to an arrest affidavit. Their suspicions led police to begin surveillance on the room. Later, an officer approached individuals leaving the room. As the officer neared, the male ran from police and shouted towards the room, “Police. It’s the police,” the affidavit stated. Officers entered the room and saw a man later identified as Cooper running towards the bathroom, reach into his pockets and pull out a plastic bag, the affidavit stated.

Police found three bags of suspected cocaine in the hotel room. The affidavit did not specify the total amount of suspected cocaine. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Cooper Friday, setting his bond at $30,000.
