Killeen police arrested a 37-year-old man they said briefly barricaded himself inside a trailer to avoid arrest.

Police charged Melvin Earl Luciano with burglary of a habitation. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Luciano on Wednesday, setting his bail at $50,000.

Police received a report of a burglary about 2:20 a.m. Monday in the 3200 block of Florence Road.

The caller told police he saw a man going in and out of a trailer, and that the man was stealing from it, an arrest affidavit stated.

An officer drove to the scene and spotted a man later identified as Luciano standing near the back door of the trailer. Luciano quickly went inside the trailer and shut the door.

The officer ordered Luciano to exit the trailer, which he eventually did.

He then admitted to squatting at the residence and stealing various items from it.

Those included appliances, vinyl records and various electronics, the affidavit stated.

Luciano remained in Bell County Jail on Wednesday night.
