BELTON — A Bell County grand jury indicted a Michigan man Wednesday on two counts of aggravated sexual assault.

Lewis Carl Dougherty, 56, was originally arrested on one charge of aggravated sexual assault stemming from an allegation that he molested a 9-year-old girl at a home in Killeen.

Further investigation showed that Dougherty also may have sexually assaulted another young female related to the 9-year-old alleged victim, according to Dougherty’s indictment.

Police learned of the allegation after the father of the victims told police July 18 that he caught Dougherty molesting his daughter.

Police communicated the allegation to officers in Wyoming, Mich., who interviewed Dougherty at a motel. During the interrogation, Dougherty admitted to sexually assaulting the girl.

He is now in Bell County Jail, with bond set at $100,000.
