More than $1 million worth of cocaine was seized in a traffic stop near exit 268 on Interstate 35, according to the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.

Sandra Jane Calderon, 34, who was arrested Tuesday and taken to a federal detention facility in Bastrop, east of Austin, faces federal charges on roughly 68 pounds of cocaine, said Sheriff's Capt. Fred Thomas on Thursday.

The drugs were found in hidden compartments in a 2009 Dodge Journey Calderon was driving, and were discovered after K-9 and physical searches, Thomas said. Calderon consented to the vehicle search.

Calderon was stopped because she was driving in the left lane without passing in a posted area, the captain said. The deputy who stopped her said she seemed nervous, was evasive and gave conflicting stories.

Because the drugs appeared to pass through Williamson County, the Drug Enforcement Administration was contacted. The wholesale price per kilogram of cocaine is about $35,000 in Central Texas.
