The mother of a man accused of assaulting a pregnant woman was arrested for allegedly threatening the woman while she underwent life-saving surgery.
Valencia Orlene Drisker, 40, was charged with obstruct retaliation and is now in Bell County Jail with bail set at $75,000.
Drisker is the mother of Marcus Terrell Drisker, whom Harker Heights police arrested Dec. 2 on charges of aggravated assault and endangering a child.
Marcus Drisker is accused of kicking the mother of his unborn child repeatedly during a meeting at Union Grove Middle School in Harker Heights.
Doctors at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center found the unborn child had a diminishing heart rate.
The woman suffered a ruptured uterus and a torn placenta, an arrest affidavit stated.
Without an emergency C-section, the woman and the child may have died, the affidavit stated. After officers arrested Marcus Drisker, Harker Heights police recorded a phone call he made to his mother indicating he had been arrested for assaulting the woman. During the call, Valencia Drisker “cursed” the woman.
While doctors treated the alleged victim at Darnall, Valencia Drisker called the victim nine times, leaving threatening messages.
In one, she told the woman, “Marcus put you in the hospital, but I will put you in the I.C.U.” In another, she said, “I’m gonna beat the hell out of you,” the affidavit stated.
Both Valencia Drisker and her son remained in Bell County Jail on Friday.
In an unrelated case, Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned Thomas Lee Hardy, 38, on a charge of theft of a firearm.
Hardy’s bail was set at $20,000.
