The victim from the Tuesday night shooting in Harker Heights has died, launching a murder investigation, police said Thursday.

The man who was found shot on the 400 block of Amy Lane — Jose Antonio Hernandez, a 28-year-old Hispanic male from Harker Heights — died Wednesday at Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, police said.

Police received a call of shots fired in the 400 block of North Amy Lane at 8:36 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived they found an unconscious man with a gunshot wound lying on the ground near the driver-side door of a vehicle that had been parked on the side of the road.

“Investigation reveals that an altercation which started in the parking lot of a business in the 400 block of East Veterans Memorial Boulevard ended in the 400 block of North Amy Lane with one male who suffered a critical gunshot wound,” according to a release from the Harker Heights Police Department. “The individual was transported by EMS to Scott and White hospital in critical condition.”
