A Killeen man is facing felony charges after he allegedly attacked a woman and her young son with a hammer.

Cecil Howell Jr., 42, was arraigned Thursday by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke on a third-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a third-degree felony charge of injury to a child.

Howell was arrested Tuesday after Killeen police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of West Avenue C just after 1:40 a.m., and found a woman and a boy both bleeding from the head.

The woman stated that Howell struck her across the face with a hammer, according to an arrest affidavit. The woman also said that when her 9-year-old son tried to help her, Howell hit the boy with the hammer.

Both the woman and her son were transported to the hospital. Police later found Howell walking in the 100 block of North College Avenue, and observed he had fresh blood and a scratch on one of his fingers.

Howell is currently in custody in Bell County Jail. Cooke set his bond at $200,000 per charge, for a total of $400,000.
