A 51-year-old man was arraigned Thursday on a drug possession charge.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Tommy Scott Smart on a charge of possession of methamphetamine in an amount of less than 1 gram.

According to an arrest affidavit, a Killeen police officer found about 0.8 grams of methamphetamine.

The methamphetamine was in a plastic bag hidden inside a pack of cigarettes that Smart threw on the ground as the officer approached him, the affidavit stated.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Whooten and Rancier at 2:52 a.m. Tuesday, the affidavit stated.

Cooke set Smart’s bail at $20,000.
