A 24-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase near downtown Killeen.

Police were dispatched to the area of North Eighth Street and Harrison Street on Thursday after receiving a report of a fight involving as many as 20 people, according to an arrest affidavit.

When an officer arrived, he saw a man later identified as Israel Edward Carlson standing near a blue Chrysler 300 along with several others believed to be involved in the fight.

The officer ordered Carlson to not move and turned his attention to other people.

Carlson then allegedly got into the car and drove away from the scene.

He led police on a pursuit that lasted about six blocks before pulling over, the affidavit stated.

After he was arrested, Carlson reportedly told police he knew he should have stayed at the scene, but he panicked.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Carlson, setting his bond at $20,000.

Carlson remained in Bell County Jail on Tuesday.

Cooke also arraigned the following:

Renee Lynn Juarez, 44, on a charge of possession of marijuana, 5 pounds or less but more than 4 ounces. Juarez’s bond was set at $20,000.

Kyle Morgan Hallman, 32, on a charge of forgery. Hallman’s bond was set at $20,000.

Morgan Ashley Boase-Kruse, 20, on a charge of possession of cocaine, less than 1 gram. Boase-Kruse’s bond was set at $20,000.

Rodney Edward Meno, 19, on a charge of theft of property of $1,500 or more but less than $20,000. Meno’s bond was set at $20,000.
