Bomb Threat

Killeen police officers investigate a bomb threat at the Harker Heights Sam's Club on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017.

The Sam’s Club at 600 W. Central Texas Expressway in Harker Heights was evacuated around lunchtime Wednesday due to a reported bomb threat, but no bomb was found, Harker Heights police said.

A Sam’s Club employee called police at 11:23 a.m. saying there was a bomb in the store and did not provide further information, according to police spokesman Sgt. Steve Miller.

At 11:38 a.m., Heights police asked a bomb-sniffing dog with the Killeen K-9 unit. At 12:24 p.m., police cleared the store.

There was a heavy police presence around the store, but people were allowed back inside at 12:25 p.m.

There was a car accident on U.S. Highway 190 at 11:57 a.m., Miller said. That happened in Killeen about a quarter-mile down the road, and did not appear connected to the Sam’s Club incident.
