Killeen police arrested two people on felony charges stemming from a traffic stop involving the seizures of suspected drugs and a threat made to an officer.

Police charged Andrew Paul Cortez, 34, with obstruct retaliation and Lowen Nakoolani Lara, 33, with possession of Clonazepam, less than 28 grams.

Both were arrested following a traffic stop Thursday on Stagecoach Road in Killeen, arrest affidavits stated.

Cortez had been driving a car about 2:50 p.m. that day when the officer saw him run off the road and head toward a heavily wooded area before veering back onto Stagecoach Road, an affidavit stated.

After the vehicle stopped, an officer asked to search Cortez. Police found pills that were later identified as Clonazepam, a prescription anti-anxiety pill that is also used to treat epilepsy.

Cortez later told police Lara had given him the pills. Lara admitted to giving pills to Cortez on multiple occasions, an affidavit stated.

While police were taking Cortez to the Killeen City Jail, he told the arresting officer he was going to “take (him) out,” the affidavit stated.

When the officer asked if that was a threat, Cortez said, “That’s a promise,”

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin arraigned the two Saturday, setting Cortez’s bond at $50,000 and Lara’s bond at $25,000.

He also arraigned the following:

Randall Scott Wilm Jr., 24, on a charge of possession of marijuana, 5 pounds or less but more than 4 ounces. Wilm’s bond was set at $50,000.

Robert Alexander Dubose, 31, on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram. Dubose’s bond was set at $20,000.
