Killeen police released the name of a woman who was shot and killed at a Killeen apartment complex early Monday morning.
Karen Louise Edwards, 43, of Killeen, was pronounced dead at 8:04 a.m., by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke, shortly after police took her alleged shooter into custody.
Police say a witness saw the man shoot Edwards after she knocked on the door at the apartment he was in on the 900 block of Mimosa Street.
The man, who police identified only as a 41-year-old black male, then took the witness hostage. The witness was able to escape and call police, who took the man into custody after a two-hour standoff.
Cooke ordered an autopsy for Edwards on Monday.
Police are withholding the name of the suspect until the case is reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office, and formal charges are filed.
