COPPERAS COVE — Police arrested two men suspected of stealing items from Walmart and H-E-B Plus! in two separate incidents during the weekend.

Justice of the Peace Bill Price arraigned Gary John Miles on Sunday on a charge of theft of property, less than $1,500. He has two previous convictions. Price set his bond at $5,000.

According to an arrest affidavit, Miles on Saturday walked into the shoe department at Walmart and put a new pair of shoes on his feet.

Miles left the store and sat on a swing outside the building until police arrived after the theft was reported.

He at first denied stealing the footwear, but later confessed to the theft, police said in the affidavit.

The shoes were valued at $20.

Price also arraigned Scott William Black on Monday on a charge of theft of property, less than $1,500. He has two previous convictions. Price set his bond at $8,000.

On Sunday, police arrested Black after he allegedly walked out of H-E-B Plus! with a cart full of unpaid groceries.

A store manager noticed him leaving with the cart and bypassing all the checkout registers, according to an arrest affidavit.

The manager supposedly called out, “Hey, hey.” Once outside, Black reportedly left the groceries in the parking lot.

Spotting the vehicle Black left in, the manager gave police a description of the car and police located the vehicle in the 400 block of West U.S. Highway 190, the affidavit stated.

Black admitted to leaving the groceries in the parking lot, the affidavit stated. The items in the cart were worth $320.27.

In an unrelated incident, Price arraigned Jay Roland Bagley on Friday on a charge of robbery. Price set his bond at $100,000.

On June 10, Bagley walked into someone’s house with a folding knife and told the victim not to move, an arrest affidavit stated. An Xbox 360, its accessories, some shoes and clothes were taken from the residence.
