Police have mounted a manhunt for a 28-year-old Fort Hood soldier they believe brutally killed a woman Friday morning in northern Killeen.
Killeen police issued a warrant charging David Michael Vega with murder Friday afternoon in connection with the stabbing death of 30-year-old Danielle Acosta-Guerrero.
Vega is a white man, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen driving a gold 1997 Jeep Cherokee with whitewall tires and Texas license plate number CY6K158, according to police.
Authorities consider Vega armed and dangerous. Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said no one should attempt to apprehend Vega. They should immediately call police.
“He’s already killed one person. We don’t need another,” Smith said.
A jogger in the Brookhaven neighborhood in northern Killeen alerted police to the homicide after he heard a woman screaming early Friday morning.
The jogger was able to determine the woman was inside a home in the 2400 block of Haven Drive. He then notified a neighbor, and the two attempted to make contact with the woman, Smith said.
They banged on the door and no one answered. But the witnesses saw a light turn on and saw a white man inside the home.
They again knocked and heard dogs barking as the man fled through the backyard, a news release from Killeen Police Department stated.
Police arrived moments later and found Acosta-Guerrero had been stabbed multiple times. Emergency personnel took her to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where she died.
Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced Acosta-Guerrero dead at 5:40 a.m. and ordered an autopsy in Dallas at the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Acosta-Guerrero’s 6-year-old child, who was inside the residence during the incident, received non-life threatening injuries, Smith said.
Police determined Vega was known to Acosta-Guerrero; however, Smith would not state the nature of their relationship.
Acosta-Guerrero’s death marks the fifth homicide in Killeen this year.
