A woman and a child were found shot Wednesday morning in west Killeen.
Killeen police officers responded to reports of a shooting victim in the 2700 block of Roadrunner Drive around 4 a.m. Two victims, a woman and a child, had gunshot wounds, according to the Killeen Police Department.
The woman underwent surgery and was listed in “stable but critical condition,” while the child was in stable condition, police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said.
The investigation is ongoing and information will be released as it becomes available.
Roadrunner Drive was otherwise quiet around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Neighbors said that although they have heard gunshots before, there is usually not a lot of activity on the street, which is one-fifth of a mile from Maxdale Elementary School. Residents were hesitant to speak on the record because an arrest had not been announced.
There were six incidents reported to police in the vicinity of Roadrunner Drive in the past year. There were three assaults, a vandalism, a car theft and a burglary in 2017.
