A 20-year-old man was in critical condition late Tuesday afternoon following a shooting early that morning.

Carroll Smith, Killeen Police Department spokeswoman, said officers continue to investigate the shooting after receiving a report at 1:22 a.m. Tuesday that a man was shot in the 3800 block of Hitchrock Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located a 20-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation revealed the man and a woman were walking when a black man wearing a red hoodie and red bandana and riding a bicycle approached them, according to a news release. The suspect demanded money from the victim and when the victim did not hand over any money, the suspect shot him and fled south on Hitchrock Drive.

The victim was airlifted to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. His name has not been released.
