Michael Saley

HARKER HEIGHTS — Police arrested a Killeen man Friday morning in connection with three August mobile home fires on Ball Road.

Michael Saley, 41, was arrested at his home on Dimple Street without incident and taken to Bell County Jail, Harker Heights Fire Chief Jack Collier said. Saley, who was hired to do demolition work on the Ball Road houses before the fires occurred, was charged with three counts of arson.

Other people are believed to be instrumental in causing the fires, too, Collier said. “We’re still pursuing other leads that could lead to other arrests.”

The first fire occurred Aug. 17 at an uninhabited mobile home in the 100 block of East Ball Road. The home was condemned and demolition crews started tearing it down Aug. 16. Investigators found the fire had multiple points of origin and suspected gasoline was used, Collier said.

Firefighters were called to a second fire at the same mobile home Aug. 21. When emergency crews arrived, the entire structure was engulfed in flames and was destroyed. On Aug. 29, a third fire destroyed another uninhabited mobile home on Ball Road.

At a news conference Friday afternoon, Collier said Harker Heights officials take arson very seriously. “We will not rest until perpetrators are brought to justice.”
