Killeen police are searching for two men who shot a man Tuesday during an armed robbery.

The victim of the shooting called 911 at 10:49 a.m., shortly after the suspects had run out the back door of his home in the 4400 block of Alan Kent Drive in southwest Killeen.

After arriving, they found the victim shot in his right side inside the doorway of his apartment.

Description of suspects

Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith described the suspects as two black men. Both wore camouflaged pants during the incident and fled on foot.

One of the suspects, a light-skinned male, wore a light-colored shirt. The other, who had a darker complexion, wore a dark shirt.

They had attempted to steal money from the man when a struggle ensued.

The victim managed to wrestle the gun from one of the suspects. The other, armed with a pipe, also may have assaulted the victim. Along with the gunshot wound, the victim also suffered lacerations to his head, Smith said.

Emergency officials took the victim to Fort Hood’s Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in serious condition. He underwent surgery Tuesday afternoon, Smith said.

Shots fired

Police were summoned to the area a second time Tuesday afternoon after receiving a call at 3 p.m. of shots fired on Nadine Drive, which intersects Alan Kent Drive in a neighborhood consisting mostly of duplex and quadplex apartments.

Police detained two males in connection with the latter shooting.

Smith said the incidents are likely not related. No injuries were reported in connection to the afternoon gunfire.
