BELTON — A Bell County grand jury Wednesday indicted a Killeen teenager who was accused of robbering a local Family Dollar store.

William Shane Hicks Jr. could face between 15 and 99 years in prison if convicted of a charge of aggravated robbery in connection with the June 10 robbery of a Family Dollar store in the 1600 block of South Fort Hood Street.

Hicks is accused of holding a store clerk at gunpoint while stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from a register.

Police arrested Hicks the day of the robbery after a standoff at his apartment.

Shortly after the robbery, a Killeen police officer spotted Hicks jogging while talking on a cellphone in the area of the Family Dollar. He matched a description of the robber provided by the clerk, according to an arrest affidavit.

When the officer ordered Hicks to stop, he ran toward an apartment complex on Westover Drive and barricaded himself inside his home.

Killeen police called in the department’s SWAT team, who surrounded the apartment for about three hours before Hicks surrendered peacefully.

Hicks initially told police he robbed the store with a toy gun. However police later recovered a .25-caliber handgun and clothing in the area where Hicks said he hid the items following the robbery, the affidavit states.

The offense was elevated because of a juvenile conviction of burglary of a habitation in 2010, according to the indictment.

Court records also indicated Hicks pleaded guilty to charges of criminal trespass and possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces from 2011.

Hicks also was charged with evading arrest and making a false statement in connection with the standoff. He has pleaded no contest to those charges.

Hicks remains in Bell County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

The grand jury also returned indictments against the following:

Joshua Alfonso Vasquez, 27, of Temple, on a charge of burglary of a habitation.

Barbara Jean Majors, 34, of Harker Heights, on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child passenger.
