BELTON — The trial of a Killeen man accused of shooting another man during a 2013 robbery began in Bell County district court this morning.

Devin Dasean Simmons, 26, faces a first-degree charge of aggravated robbery in connection with the incident, which took place Oct. 16, 2013, in Harker Heights.

According to police, Simmons and a female accomplice robbed the victim at gunpoint, taking his wallet, keys and cellphone. The man was shot in the hip as he tried to escape the two by jumping out a window.

Jury selection is currently underway, and opening arguments are expected to begin this afternoon. Simmons could face up to life in prison if convicted.
