The Killeen Police Department is investigating an early-morning shooting that left two men dead Sunday.
Officers responded to the Lone Star Inn and Suites at 409 South Second St., after receiving multiple 911 calls about shots fired just before 2:30 a.m., according to a news release from police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez. When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both men were immediately transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood in critical condition. One victim died from his injuries and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke at 4:44 a.m.
The second victim was subsequently transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple where he died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace G.W. Ivy at 7:08 a.m., according to the release.
The preliminary investigation revealed both men were involved in an incident that led to them shooting each other. As a result of the investigation, the police department does not believe there is a threat to the community.
The names of the victims are being withheld until their next of kin have been notified.
