Vanza Lee Midgette, 51, was arrested Thursday by Killeen police on a charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Police arrived at the Amco Inn and Suites in regards to a criminal trespassing call Thursday. When they arrived at the room specified in the call, they found drug paraphernalia “in plain view,” including a crack pipe and a clear plastic bag filled with a white powder substance, police said. An officer brought Midgette outside of the room and placed the items on a night stand before going back to his car to grab a drug testing kit, according to the affidavit.
When the officer returned from his car, he saw that Midgette was no longer outside the room, police said. When inside the room, the officer saw Midgette inside, and the items were no longer on the night stand, according to the affidavit. Midgette said he flushed the items. The officer then noticed the bathroom toilet was running, according to the affidavit.
Midgette is being held in the Bell County Jail. Bond was set at $20,000.
