The man who died after being found with a gunshot wound in a wooded area behind a 7-Eleven store Friday morning was identified as 29-year-old Travis James Granger of Killeen, police said in a news release.
Keith Louis Marinnie, 27, also of Killeen, was charged with his murder, police said in the Friday night release.
Marinnie was taken to the Killeen City Jail after being located about 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Pershing Drive and Old Farm-to-Market 440, the release said.
Police responded to the shooting scene at 1219 S. Fort Hood St. about 9:20 a.m., and Granger was taken to Metroplex Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke at 11:08 a.m.; an autopsy was ordered.
Earlier Friday, an external lockdown took place at Pershing Park Elementary School while police searched for suspects. A Killeen Independent School District release said no students or staff were hurt during the incident.
The lockdown was lifted and classes resumed about 12:30 p.m., district spokesman Shannon Rideout said in a news release.
An investigation continues and information will be released as it becomes available, police said.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the homicide to call Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-TIPS (8477) or go online to bellcountycrimestoppers.com.
