The Bell County Attorney’s Office confirmed Friday that it filed charges against a local teenager who allegedly attacked a young boy near a Killeen school more than three months ago. The attack was caught on video.

Bell County Attorney James E. Nichols said the charges were filed Thursday, and that the case would be pursued through the juvenile court system.

“(Killeen) police referred the case to us,” Nichols said. “We reviewed it, and charges were filed.”

Because those involved are juveniles, Nichols said he could not reveal their names, nor any details about the case.

The charges were filed more than three months after an online video surfaced of a fight between the victim — an autistic, 13-year-old Liberty Hill Middle School student — and the unidentified attacker. According to the victim’s mother, the fight occurred outside the school, and resulted in her child’s wrist breaking.

A video of the attack was posted online shortly after the incident, and quickly became viral, and the story was featured on a number of blogs and other media outlets.

While he could not comment on the case specifically, Nichols said a fight would have to be particularly severe to be sent to his office.

“If it is a mutual fray, it does not usually come to us,” he said. “Basically, for us to get involved it has to be a little more serious.”
