A local woman was arraigned Tuesday on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child in the car after she ran off the road, according to an arrest affidavit.

The report stated that Harker Heights police responded to a single-vehicle accident near East Knights Way and High Oak Drive.

Helen Pamela Bernal, 49, allegedly told a witness not to call police and attempted to drive the vehicle out of a ditch, according to reports.

Bernal had a 5-year-old child in the vehicle with her at the time.

The report stated that when Bernal saw the officers, she said, “I’m in trouble.”

The affidavit said a woman called to the scene who knows Bernal said she “was supposed to be in (Alcoholics Anonymous) and shouldn’t be drinking at all.”

According to the arrest report, Bernal was later charged with driving while intoxicated, third offense or more. Her total bail was set at $10,000.

In unrelated incidents, Bell County Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke also arraigned:

Kevin Antonio Doss, 29, on a felony charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. His bail was set at $60,000.

Curtis Jay Cross, 55, on a charge of theft more than $1,500 but less than $20,000. His bail was set at $50,000.
