GATESVILLE — A 52nd District Court grand jury added three new charges against a Copperas Cove woman who was previously indicted for watching her boyfriend abuse a 7-month-old child.

On Tuesday, the grand jury indicted Diamond LeShawn Pender, 18, of Copperas Cove on three additional charges of injury to a child in connection with an August incident.

Prior to this week’s grand jury, she was indicted on one charge of injury to a child stemming from the incident. Her boyfriend at the time, Jacquel Torran O’Neal, of Copperas Cove, also was indicted on four charges of injury to a child. He was indicted for the second, third and fourth time in May.

While reviewing the details of the August incident, investigators believe multiple crimes occurred where a young girl suffered injuries, said Assistant District Attorney Scott Stevens. Medical records appeared to support the investigators’ findings.

Police arrested the couple Aug. 4 in the 300 block of Pinto Drive while responding with Texas Child Protective Services regarding a 7-month-old girl bleeding, stated an arrest affidavit.

Pender reportedly told police the child was bleeding for two days, but she did not take the child to the hospital to avoid involving the authorities, according to the complaint. Child Protective Services, however, made Pender and the child go to the hospital.

Doctors examined the infant and discovered severe trauma to her genitals caused by penetration and that she would need surgery to repair the damage, stated the complaint. Doctors also discovered the child had bruises in different stages of healing, a burn mark on her abdomen, several fractured bones and three broken ribs.

During a police interview, Pender allegedly said she did not know how the injuries occurred and was unaware of them, stated the affidavit.

O’Neal, however, told officers a different story.

He reportedly said the child would fall out of her bed, stated the affidavit. The burn mark was allegedly from him smoking a cigarette near her and the bleeding started after he changed her diaper and cleaned her private area with his finger.

A witness reported O’Neal allegedly pushed the infant in the abdomen until she “pooped,” according to the affidavit. The witness also said he would hold the girl by her ankles, hit her legs and scratch her.

The witness also told officers that Pender was present during the incidents and the two would fight about it, stated the affidavit.

RE: "Woman gets three additional charges of injury to a child".
Personally, I will be highly offended if these 2 people are allowed to live, but, since they didn't kill the baby girl yet, I suppose I will have to settle for them never being allowed to freely walk the streets of society...EVER! Can we at least get that???
