A woman who police say attacked her former lover with a hammer in Killeen pleaded guilty to felony assault charges Monday morning.

Vivian Ann Watkins pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Bell County’s 27th District Court in connection with the Aug. 30, 2013, attack.

According to an arrest affidavit, Watkins hit the victim in the face with a hammer after he saw her using it scratch his vehicle.

The victim was armed when Watkins charged him, but the weapon misfired when he attempted to shoot her, the affidavit stated.

Watkins will be sentenced March 20. She could face up to 20 years in prison.
