Central Texas College will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by hosting an event for all students at its Anderson Campus Center on Thursday.

The college’s annual Hispanic Heritage festival will be free and open to the public, and feature music, food, entertainment and a performance by the Stars of Panama.

The event will take place on the first floor of the center and will run from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Other similar events

The heritage event at the college follows a number of similar events in the city of Killeen.

The Killeen chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens held its annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Sept. 14.

Killeen Mayor Dan Corbin also hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month reception Sept. 17 in the foyer of Killeen City Hall.

The observance of Hispanic Heritage Month started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson. It was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting Sept. 15 and ending Oct. 15.

It was enacted into law in August 1988.

Transfer Day

In addition to the heritage event, the college will also host its annual Transfer Day on the second floor of the campus center from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Students will meet recruiters from four-year schools across Texas and the country, and receive information on transferring credits, degree plans, housing, financial aid and more. Nearly 40 universities and schools will participate.
