Central Texas College is ranked fourth in Texas this year in the pass rate for first-time registered nurse candidates taking the state’s licensing exam.

Students in the college’s associate degree in nursing program had a pass rate of 94.5 percent for the year Oct. 1, 2012, through Sept. 30 on the Texas Board of Nursing National Certification Licensing Exam.

The figures were taken from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Education Program Summary of all first-time candidates educated in Texas Board of Nursing-approved programs.

CTC announcement

The college’s nursing department was made aware of the ranking by the Texas Board of Nursing, according to a CTC announcement Monday morning. “In a letter we received from the Texas Board of Nursing, it indicated the pass rates for 2013 were lower than normal,” said Sandra Thomason, CTC nursing program director. “So we are very excited and very pleased our students did so well and achieved one of the top pass rates in the state.”

Finishing ahead of CTC in the rankings were Howard College, with 100 percent,

South Plains College with 95.7 percent and Angelina College, with 95 percent.

CTC was one of only 12 of 63 schools offering an associate degree in nursing program to finish with a 90 percent or higher pass rate.

The college’s 94.5 percent pass rate for nursing students is higher than last year’s pass rate of 93.88 percent for CTC students.
