LAMPASAS — One person was killed and two others were airlifted from the scene of a three-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 183 five miles south of Lometa.

According to a statement issued by Lampasas County Judge Wayne Boultinghouse, the fatal crash involved two Lampasas County vehicles that hit head-on, killing at least one county employee.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Harpin Myers said the accident involved two Lampasas County dump trucks carrying unknown materials. The deceased driver, a county employee, experienced a blowout on the left front tire of the dump truck, causing the truck to veer into the oncoming lane and strike a pickup truck pulling a boat.

Myers said the dump truck then glanced off the pickup and struck another county owned dump truck head-on.

The deceased county employee was pronounced dead at the scene by Precincts 2 and 3 Justice of the Peace Camron Brister.

The victim’s name was withheld pending identification and notification of his family.

The two surviving drivers were flown from the scene to Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Their conditions were unknown as of press time.
