A Killeen computer store was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.

More than 30 firefighters responded to MultiByte Systems, in the 1900 block of East Rancier Avenue, at 2:58 a.m. to battle the blaze.

No injuries were reported. It took about an hour to get the fire under control, officials said.

Firefighters were still at the scene by midday Monday, putting out hotspots, said Killeen Fire Department Deputy Chief Kenneth Hawthorne. The fire engulfed “pretty much the entire roof structure,” Hawthorne said. “It was a fairly large store.” The Killeen Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire.

“Evidence found at the scene indicates

possible suspicious circumstances involving the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation,” according to a news release issued by the marshal’s office Monday night.

Hawthorne said many of the electronics and supplies in the store were destroyed by flames and thick smoke.

Hawthorne said an adjacent, 100-foot radio tower was in danger of falling down due to the fire, but firefighters were able to keep the fire from destroying the tower.

“It’s still standing,” he said.

Felix Kim, the owner of MegaBites Systems, said he did not know how the fire started, and was busy trying to close business accounts Monday afternoon.

He said the store had operated in Killeen for 18 years and employed five people.

KFD sent three fire engines, a ladder truck and several smaller vehicles. A fire department from Fort Hood also assisted in the blaze.
