The Copperas Cove Independent School District board of trustees discussed staffing allocations during its workshop Monday afternoon.

This year, the board is taking the loss of federal Impact Aid funding — a smaller budget for the district — into consideration.

According to the new Texas Association of School Boards staffing formula, CCISD will eventually have to lose three counselors for future school years.

Burns said two counselors already put their resignation in, so if another counselor resigns, the district does not plan to rehire a counselor.

“Because of the loss of Impact Aid, if we gain a position right now that we think we’re going to end up having to absorb sometime in the future, unless that position is critical needs, we’re not hiring that position back,” Burns said. "We’re going to take that slot early (through attrition).”

The board will hold its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the district’s administration building board room, 703 West Avenue D in Copperas Cove.
