Central Texas College recently announced its online alternative high school, CTC Online High School, earned continuing accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accreditation division of AdvancED.

The nongovernmental, voluntary agency, AdvancED, serves more than 30,000 public and private schools and school systems in more than 70 countries and serves more than 16 million students.

CTC’s Online High School is now one of three SACS CASI accredited institutions in Killeen, along with Memorial Christian Academy and St. Joseph’s Catholic School. CTC’s Online High School enrolls anywhere from 25 to 100 area students a month in its self-paced online course.

The additional accreditation was announced at the AdvancED Accreditation Commission meeting held in Tempe, Ariz., in June.

The college’s online high school program has been accredited by other agencies since 1973.

“Accreditation demonstrates to our students, parents and community we are focused on raising student achievement, providing a safe and enriching learning environment and maintaining an efficient and effective operation staffed by highly qualified educators,” said Larry Kruse, coordinator of the CTC Online High School.

The SACS CASI grants accreditations on a five-year term.

To earn accreditation, schools must meet SACS CASI’s high standards, be evaluated by a team of professionals from outside the school and implement a continuous process of school improvement. SACS CASI’s accreditation designation is also based of state-regulated standards.

The new SACS CASI accreditation is recognized across state lines.

This not only eases the transfer process as students move from accredited school to accredited school, but also assures parents the school is meeting nationally accepted standards for quality and successful professional practice.

“SACS CASI accreditation is a rigorous process that focuses the entire school on the primary goal of creating lifelong learners,” said Mark Elgart, president of AdvancED, the parent organization of SACS CASI. “CTC Online High School is to be commended for engaging in this process and demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.”
